Dixon Village
Building the future. Together.
Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County is currently building a 28 single-family home neighborhood called Dixon Village. Dixon Village is an innovative approach to affordable housing that represents a shift in the way we think about strengthening families and creating opportunity by intentionally building connections in a mixed-income community.
Dixon Village will be a unique community that is composed of 1/3 Habitat families, 1/3 workforce housing for health care workers, police officers, firefighters, teachers, etc., and 1/3 of the homes will be purchased by market-rate entry-level buyers. This strategy will bring together families of diverse incomes, cultural backgrounds, occupations, and ages in a community designed to foster friendships and interaction.
Homeownership not only benefits families, it benefits all residents of Gaston County. Owning a home can revitalize distressed communities, build neighborhood stability, and foster a sense of community and well-being. An affordable mortgage allows families to invest in basic necessities of life such as groceries, medicine, and health care. Homeownership can eliminate generational poverty due to a family’s ability to build a financial asset that can be transferred to their children.
Dixon Village will be a charming, attractive community that will be a mix of 3- and 4-bedroom homes. The neighborhood will feature community-building amenities such as front porches, sidewalks, and a park-like green space with a playground, picnic tables, and a walking path.
