Michael Barrett of the Gaston Gazette Explained How Publix Steps up for Habitat
The Executive Director Mary Harris contacted Publix for support after learning the store would be expanding into Gastonia. She initially discussed a $5,000 to $10,000 grant toward a home construction project. Then she learned they would offer a full sponsorship of $75,000. Publix recently announced it will contribute $5 million in the coming weeks to build more than 60 Habitat homes across the Southeast, said spokeswoman Kim Reynolds.

Alfred and Frankie both moved around a lot growing up. Alfred grew up with a father in the military and Frankie lived in group homes. Alfred served in the army for 5 years and did 2 tours in Iraq. They have been married since 2007 and have 2 children. They heard about Habitat through current Habitat homeowners who encouraged them to apply for the program. They have learned through the Habitat process to wait on the Lord for his timing.
