Affordable, safe and decent housing gives hope and transforms lives.

Habitat Gaston partners with families in the low-income range of 30 – 60% of the area median income to make the dream of homeownership a reality. We break down the barriers to obtaining a mortgage, such as poor credit, lack of a down payment, and consumer debt that prevent low-income families from obtaining credit. Through this partnership, families purchase a home they can afford on the wages they make.  Homeownership enables families to grow and thrive, build a financial asset, and escape generational poverty.

The many life-changing benefits of homeownership for deserving families are clear:

  • Housing can powerfully affect a child’s ability to thrive. Studies show that children who live in safe, affordable homes are healthier, happier, and do better in school.
  • A safe place to live can have a significant impact on a family’s health. According to the World Health Organization, families without decent housing face greater personal and environmental risks, are less nourished, and have less access to health care.
  • Habitat’s work has long-term effects on a family’s economic opportunities. Habitat homeowners report they are better able to pay bills on time, build savings, invest in education and small businesses, and build generational wealth.

Housing Solutions

We partner with families to help them achieve or retain homeownership through new home construction or critical home repairs.

Strategic Initiatives

Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County has adopted the following strategic goals:

  1. Increase the number of families and individuals served annually through the Homeownership Program.
  2. Expand our housing solutions to include higher density building such as town homes and duplexes, etc. in addition to new home construction and critical home repairs to meet the challenges presented by the affordable housing crisis.
  3. Continue to build mixed-income communities.
  4. Increase the donations of gently used goods and materials to the ReStore to reduce dumping in landfills and provide funding to build housing solutions.
  5. Continue to strengthen the organization through strong policies and procedures that allow us to achieve our strategies and goals while operating with transparency at a high standard, and through excellent stewardship of public trust, donor funding, volunteer support, partnerships, partner families and the Habitat Gaston team.
  6. Implement a staffing plan that provides the capacity to execute the associated construction, ReStore, development, finance, homeowner program and volunteer coordination to support this strategic vision and plan.

Make the Dream of Homeownership Possible By Supporting Our Home Sponsorship Program

Sponsorships are a way for companies to make a philanthropic commitment and engage their employees with Habitat Gaston.

The need for safe, stable homes has never been greater. Right now, the ability to afford simple, decent housing is out of reach for too many families. Dramatically increasing costs for construction materials, higher mortgage interest rates and escalating home values is placing housing out of reach for more and more families. The need for Habitat Gaston to partner with families to achieve the dream of homeownership is critical.

We ask you to join together with us by becoming a home sponsor. Your partnership will make a difference in the lives of our Habitat families and their ability to build strong families, which results in a stronger Gaston County!

Corporate philanthropy has many positive benefits including employee engagement, retention and greater happiness, plus, it contributes to a company’s overall success.
